Fine Art Photography | Photography Tutorial NYC | Portfolio Reviewing

Picking images and editing photographs is a chore, and is mostly anxiety producing for myself, even after all these years doing it.

Although its a very personal process, I recommend doing it with someone else or getting feedback from a few close friends.

I just worked with a student who had images of Detroit.  I started by asking her what she thought the images were about and then asked her to select images that represented those ideas.  She initially said she was interested in urban landscapes and the people living in the shadow of hulking, barren places.  But most of the images she choose did not reflect this.

I then went through and really looked at the images, and found a bunch that had were interesting–but not the ones she liked initially.

As photographers, I think we find something that stimulates us and makes us open to the creative process but then find a completely different narrative or approach.
