This exhibition was inspired by the current explosion of self-publishing that has been fueled by artists wanting to utilize technology and the internet to explore possibilities outside traditional publication channels. Curated by Carlos Loret de Mola and Willson Cummer.

EN FOCO/IN FOCUS: Selections from the Permanent Collection

Founded in New York in 1974, En Foco has been dedicated to promoting cultural diversity in the field of photography. It has nurtured and supported photographers of diverse cultures, beginning with Latinos in New York, and then broadening its mission to embrace photographers of African, Asian, and Native American heritage across the United States. Curated by Elizabeth Ferrer.

PAL Project at Fowler High School

Photography and Literacy Project (PAL) is an innovative program positioned under Syracuse University’s Coalition of Museum and Art Centers (CMAC) that brings SU students into Syracuse City schools to develop projects involving photography, video, audio recording, and writing. The objective is to improve student’s writing and reading skills by linking these studies with photography, video, and poetry.

Spark Art Gallery

Gallery Hours: 12-6pm, SPE CLOSING PARTY 8:30-11pm

Meta Revisited/Studious Hosted by Lay Flat and Light Work and curated by Shane Lavalette, Spark Art Gallery is featuring Meta Revisited, an exhibition of photographs by select contributing artists from Lay Flat 02: Meta, accompanied by a pop-up library and shop of Lay Flat publications. In addition, the exhibition Studious will highlight work by various students participating in the conference. Outside of the daytime gallery hours (open to the public), the SPE Closing Party party will feature the exhibitions, as well as offer the delicious Mexican cuisine of local favorite Alto Cinco and an evening of entertainment with DJ Kernal Panik and VJ Intimate Scratchings.
