Scenes From a Life: Ch. 3

These photographs trace the last few months of my father’s life.  They are intimate, intense and real views of human relations and an unveiled look at death

Note: some may find them disturbing.

In the self portraits where the photographer and the subject–me and my dad–are together–events are captured unfolding in real time. Often, I didn’t look through the camera’s viewfinder, and the image is framed and captured remotely to be as unobtrusive as possible.

The project was initially shown on the app Snapchat, where each day an image was posted that could be viewed for only twenty four hours before it disappeared. The fleeting nature of the mirrors ephemeral moments of life and memory.Informed by cinema and nineteenth century painting, the title alludes to a 1970s Swedish television series by filmmaker Ingmar Bergman called, “Scenes from a Marriage”.
