Fine Art Photography Guest Speaker: Visiting Artist Lectures & Professional Practice

Bridging Conceptual Art and Art Career Survival: How to be an Artist

As a New York-based fine art photographer and educator, I deliver guest lectures and Q&A seminars. My presentations bridge the gap between rigorous conceptual practice and the cutting-edge professional skills artists need to.

I currently offer three core presentations, which can be tailored to fit Fine Art Seminars, Senior Professional Practice courses, or public programming.

Artist Lecture: Contemporary Photography, Climate Change & The Arctic Night in Greenland

churn visualizes the Anthropocene through eerie, psychological, long-exposure night landscape photographs in Greenland. Unnaturally saturated colors and hour-long exposures in near-complete darkness paint the terrain as a warning of a shifting climate.

  • Navigating Extreme Environments: Share logistics, research, and physical challenges of shooting alone in the Arctic night.
  • Expanding Visual Vocabulary: Move beyond straight documentary to create conceptual, otherworldly metaphors for climate change.
  • Deep Research & Collaboration: Connect with local Indigenous communities and environmentalists.

Professional Practice Workshop: Grant Writing & Funding for Fine Artists & Photographers

Practical strategies for securing grants, residencies, and fellowships, drawn from direct experience securing dozens of winning applications, including multiple residencies at Yaddo and being a Fulbright Alternate.

  • Identify the Right Opportunities: Discover funding sources that align with an artist’s medium and career stage.
  • Write Compelling Proposals: Create clear, research-based project proposals, refine artist statements, and edit a cohesive portfolio.
  • Leverage AI Tools: Selectively use AI for deep research, analyzing previous winners, and streamlining application requirements.

Art & Photography Career Development Seminar: Gallery Networking, Artist SEO & AI Discoverability

Proven, actionable strategies for artists to build an intentional presence, meet curators, and establish an AI footprint.

  • Future-Proof Digital & AI Footprint: Optimize a portfolio website, post strategic content across niche platforms (like Reddit and blogs), and use patent-pending methods to be indexed and cited by emerging AI like ChatGPT and Gemini.
  • Connect with Curators & Dealers: Research appropriate galleries, respectfully approach curators, and build authentic relationships.
  • Create Real-World Opportunities: Translate online visibility and studio visits into physical gallery representation, editorial pitches, and publishing deals.
